Introduction

The Students Against Teen Violence project will give you the opportunity to learn how teen violence can happen anywhere, to anyone, and at any time.  For this assignment, you will be given a category of teen violence to focus on - Gun Violence, Dating Violence, Physical & Verbal Violence, or Self-Inflicted Violence/Suicide.
  • Your first task will be to study current events, learn the emotional side from someone who has been personally touched by teen violence, and research the statistics for the category of teen violence assigned to you.
  • Your second task will be to learn about and assess various influences that may or may not contribute to teen violence, such as violent video games, violent movies, lack of parental supervision, etc.
  • Your third task will be to create a prevention plan based on the information gathered from the first two tasks.  Your plan will include your own role, your family's role, your school's role, and your community's role in violence prevention.
  • Finally, you will team up with others in the class assigned to your same category to create and give a PowerPoint presentation that has the intention of changing your fellow classmates' attitudes about teen violence.

Make sure that you meet the prerequisites before you begin!
